We learnt a lot about the resiliency of our team, company, partners and clients as we navigated the new realities 2020 threw at us, so when you came, 2021, we were ready. And as we bid you adieu, we’ll take a moment to pause and reflect on the year that was, and send out a special shout-out to our team of extremely talented and dedicated Talk Shoppers who made it all happen.
First Half.
Rolling out a hybrid work model with no mandates to be in office became our norm. We opened our offices to those who wanted/needed some team interaction and, let’s face it, a change of scenery but were careful with health and safety protocols to make sure we did it right.
Being named one of BC’s Top 100 Employers and a Top 100 Small & Medium Business in Canada were definitely highlights, and with a renewed focus on our team’s mental wellness, we rolled out Flex Fridays, all-agency mental wellness days-off (semi-annually), and a new coaching platform, Sphere, to provide a resource for the team to work on professional or personal goals and general well-being.
We launched our first-ever Women in FinTech Grant to support women entrepreneurs in a traditionally male-dominated industry. We are proud to continue to support and work with our inaugural winner – Khushboo Jha of BuyProperly.
And if that wasn’t enough, we also acquired ROI Relations in Toronto to further bolster our lifestyle portfolio and team.
Second Half.
We grew. A lot. Our Toronto office led the growth with the addition of 17 new team members, and an increase in revenue of 146%. And although we also saw our share of team transitions, we were happy to welcome all of the new faces and congratulate the 14 team members who were promoted across the company. We also rolled out new services and sharpened our skills for those we were already known for.
With restrictions lifting, we also grabbed the chance to get the whole agency together in Whistler to celebrate Talk Shop’s 10th Anniversary at our annual retreat. We had a lot of fun, recharging and reconnecting with team members in real life, some for the first time.
This past fall, we also held the first of many to come Talking Shop panel discussions at our office, this one focusing on insights on what lies ahead for communication and marketing in 2022. Expert panellists and some time to network with attendees proved a successful event and we can’t wait for the next one.
We are ending the year on a high with our business and team goals on track to exceed expectations and our Vancouver and Toronto teams getting together once again for in-person holiday festivities, including a planned charity initiative in support of local women’s shelters.
What’s next?
As a company, we pride ourselves on not being content with what is and leaning into what can be. As we look forward to the new year, we are excited at what lies ahead for ourselves, our clients and Talk Shop.
